Seussical JR - May 8-10, 2026

"Oh, the thinks you can think!" The world of Dr. Seuss came to vibrant life on the APAA stage with our production of Seussical JR. From the Cat in the Hat to Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, and the citizens of Whoville, our young performers brought beloved characters to life through music, movement, and imagination.

This whimsical musical journey reminded audiences that "a person's a person, no matter how small" - a message of friendship, loyalty, and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself. Our cast embraced every colorful moment, from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, with energy and heart.

A heartfelt thank you to our cast, crew, families, and audiences who made this Seussical adventure unforgettable.

Hadestown: Teen Edition - February 20-March 1, 2026

A myth retold. A road to hell. A story of love, doubt, and the courage to keep going.

Asheville Performing Arts Academy presented Hadestown: Teen Edition - a soaring intertwining of the ancient tales of Orpheus and Eurydice, Hades and Persephone. With haunting melodies, evocative movement, and a cast of 34 extraordinary young artists, our company brought Anaïs Mitchell's Tony Award-winning musical to life on the APAA stage.

From the workers of Hadestown to the Fates weaving destiny, every performer poured their heart into this poetic, deeply human story. Audiences described the production as "a heartbreaking work of art," and we couldn't be prouder of the dedication our students brought to every rehearsal and performance.

Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition (With a Very "Wicked" Surprise) - December 12-14, 2025

Follow the yellow brick road! APAA's youth performers brought the timeless magic of The Wizard of Oz to the stage - with an extra dash of Wicked magic woven in for an unforgettable twist.

Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion journeyed through Munchkinland, the Emerald City, and beyond, while our talented young cast delivered the songs and characters audiences have loved for generations. The "wicked surprise" added a delightful layer that had audiences cheering through every performance.

Opening night was a hit, and the closing matinee left families with full hearts and big smiles. We're so proud of our young artists who took on this beloved classic with confidence, creativity, and joy.

From Asheville, With Love - October 9-18, 2025 | The Wortham Center

APAA opened its season at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts with From Asheville, With Love - a heartfelt celebration of musical theatre, community, and the artists who call Asheville home.

Performed on one of Asheville's most beloved stages, this production showcased the talent, training, and passion of our APAA students across a range of memorable moments from musical theatre. It was a wonderful way to kick off the season and welcome audiences back to live performance.

A sincere thank you to the Wortham Center, our students, families, faculty, and the Asheville community for making this production such a meaningful start to our year.
